Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Cardiac Center
CHOP’s Cardiac Center is an incredibly special place that our family will forever hold close to our hearts.
The care Olivia received has been stellar from the moment she received her diagnosis prenatally. The Fetal Heart Program and her cardiologist, Dr. Rychik, cared for her beginning at 22 weeks in utero and walked us through every step of the prenatal journey with love, kindness & hope. After delivery in the Special Delivery Unit, she was transferred to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, where she received unparalleled care prior to her heart surgery, they held our hands as we sent her off for her heart repair and continued to treat her as though she was their own until we were sent to the step down unit. The cardiothoracic surgery team performed nothing short of a miracle on June 5th, 2014. Dr. Spray, Olivia’s surgeon (also referred to as a magician by many heart families), is a world renowned surgeon that continues to seek answers that will not only save children’s lives, but improve their overall life expectancy.
In the Cardiac Care Center, we learned how to care for Olivia’s specific needs & were cared for until discharge. Olivia will require lifelong cardiac care & we are so lucky to receive that care at CHOP’s Cardiac Center, where she is regularly followed by Dr. Rychik & specialty teams.
The miracles & hope the Cardiac Center brings to countless families that travel to them from around the world would not be possible without their commitment to their patients and groundbreaking research trials. We are so thrilled to be able to give back to the Cardiac Center’s research, so that they will continue to break new ground in the pediatric cardiac field & save even more lives of those impacted by CHD’s.
